Once Beautiful Shade, Now Totally Gone
If you look at early photos of our new kennel on our website, you will note that our kennel entrance included four mature oak trees in the runs. Although we had hoped they would thrive despite our construction of the sand runs, it was not to be. Three of them were removed at least a year ago. It was a substantial project, even requiring a crane to lift some of the tree limbs out so we would not damage the fencing. The fourth tree was mostly removed except for about five feet of stump. To dig out the stump and maneuver it was a little too much of a project and not really necessary at the time. Once we decided to convert our sand runs to concrete as well as undertake a re-fencing project, we knew it was now or never! It took about six hours, five men, two backhoes, supervision from the Director, and a lot of sweat. Halfway through the project, we weren't even sure if it could even be done. Then, finally, we were able to get the stump on its side, strip the soil off of the remaining root structure and haul it away. Not such a little job but definitely worth the end result!
