Silence is Golden
It's not just this time of the year, but all year round. Who could imagine walking through a kennel with 80 dogs in it - they have all been out for their morning exercise, they have all just gotten a meal, employees are taking a break - with only just a hush in the air! We must have a bad CD in the player so there isn't any soft or classical music currently playing. Since I am a little hard of hearing, I don't even hear breathing. It's only 8:30am and everyone in the kennel is napping!
As the person who spent years on the design, thought process and construction of NGAP's kennel, the silence is truly golden. Every time I walk through the kennel at quiet time, which occurs a few times during the day, our greyhounds and other critters that make up our canine population are resting in comfort with full stomachs. Almost like switching off the lights, or shall I say WHEN we switch off the lights, the animals immediately relax!
Few people can appreciate what I am able to appreciate multiple times per day. Most kennels are not like ours. They are noisy, with staff moving throughout at all times and hoses keeping the floors wet while excrement is cleaned. At NGAP, it usually doesn't even smell like a kennel as you walk through.
All of those that have a connection to NGAP in some fashion or another should take a moment to pause, reflect, listen to the quiet and know that it is partially through your doing that we were able to accomplish this. Is it Christmas, Hanukkah, or just the time of year? No. This is NGAP's kennel at its finest.
I also must add that then I walk into the boarding section where we have an IG named Patrick, he will bark like crazy! Patrick is the only one that breaks the silence until I leave and all becomes quiet again.
