Florida Governor Rick Scott Favors Seminoles Over Greyhounds....Again
It would appear that Florida Governor Rick Scott is not interested in keeping the votes of animal lovers and pet adopters. He is currently throwing greyhounds to the wolves by not permitting decoupling to pass through the legislature. Once again, the Seminoles are a higher priority.
Decoupling can be, and should be, presented as a completely separate issue. There is no escaping the facts:
1. The State of Florida loses money on greyhound racing.
2. The dog tracks in Florida lose money on greyhound racing even with the state-funded subsidy.
3. While racing, many greyhounds will die or suffer broken legs or other severe injuries that will end their life or their racing career.
Florida can independently pass legislation to end live racing at Florida's greyhound tracks as well as separately negotiate with the Seminoles on the part of their contract that expires next year.
Florida's greyhound lovers, animals lovers and anyone that believes in the humane treatment of animals need to step up and remind Governor Rick Scott that that they all have votes, that they are watching and that they will not forget how his decisions impacted Florida's racing greyhounds.
