Keeping A Promise: Communal Cremation

For those that are not aware, National Greyhound Adoption Program/Dutton Road Veterinary Clinic has its own crematory. While it is rare that we ever have to cremate any of our in-house dogs, we cremate cats and dogs belonging to our clinic clients on a daily basis. Pet owners have the option of choosing a private or a communal cremation. For a private cremations, the pet is placed into the crematory alone and the owner receives their pet's ashes back. For communal cremation, cats and dogs belonging to multiple pet owners are cremated together and the ashes are kept with the promise that the ash will be spread on our grounds. After accumulating ash for some time, we finally had our first ash spreading this past July. Volunteers gathered to respectfully return these beloved pets to the earth. We have kept our promise and will continue to keep that promise in the future
Back when our kennel was located at 4800 Wingate Street, one of our adopters passed away and their last wish was for their ashes to be spread on the premises of the National Greyhound Adoption Program. We fulfilled that promise as well. That ash still resides at 4800 Wingate Street. We hope to one day move the red stone at that location, collect the ash and find it a good place at our Dutton Road location.
